Hualien County is located in Eastern Taiwan. It is the largest county in Taiwan. It is one-eighth

the size of Taiwan. Of its 4,628 square Kilometer, 87% is mountain, 6% is river, and only 7% is

plain.Hualien is long and narrow. It backs up to the central mountain range and it faces the Pacific

Ocean. It is crisscrossed by waterways. The scenery is beautiful and the climate is warm. The four

seasons are very similar.

Hualien County is a scenic area located on the East-West, Cross-Island highway, in the section

that goes from Taroko to Tien-Hsiang. It is well known for its scenic areas and for its aboriginal

culture center. Its attractions are visited by local and foreign tourist as well as overseas Chinese.

The administrative area of Hualien County is divided into a city and twelve townships. The

population is approximately 333,240. The density is 72 people per square kilometer.
